Technical Writer
Description:
Coordinates, plans, edits, and writes a variety of technical documents such as Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWRs), Technical Manuals (TMs), Modification Work Orders (MWOs), and Work Instructions.
Edits draft and finalized documents through application of substantial knowledge and understanding of editing and writing standards, procedures, formats and terminology.
Assures descriptions of equipment and processes are sufficiently developed for application by targeted audience; similarly, reviews narrative presentation, tables, graphs, drawings, appendices, and other illustrative material.
Edits for conformance to customer requirements, logical sequence, and appropriateness of technical terminology.
Reviews material for proper grammatical usage, punctuation, format, spelling, style, and order of presentation.
Rewrites sentences within paragraphs to improve clarity of meaning and consistency.
Checks references to other publications for accuracy of titles, numbers, dates, and applicability of subject matter.
Reviews and proofreads camera-ready copy of technical publications to assure compliance with standards and requirements.
Develops technical documentation formats and assures conformance to military standards and customer specifications.
Coordinates changes or extraordinary situations regarding format, content, grammatical usage, etc., with the customer and disseminates to desktop publishing and technical writing staffs.
Attends in-process reviews and start-of-work conferences.
Maintains records documenting development of documents such as dated milestones, letters of instruction, format, page counts, man-hours expended, number of drawings and numeric designation, writer, etc.

Documentation Specialist:
The Documentation Specialist shall develop end user manuals, system documentation, data dictionaries, data diagrams and operational procedures.
Develop and maintain technical and graphical documentation for end users, technical personnel, and management.
Create document plans, types, templates and predefined styles for use by documentation staff.
Coordinate, plan and schedule technical writing tasks for lower level documentation staff.
Ensure adherence to Army and DOD standards and performs quality assurance reviews of delivered documentation.
Work independently but under the supervision of a Project Leader and adhere to and are an advocate of safety.
Plan and set goals and objectives for weekly activities to ensure a high level of productivity, including prioritizing documentation requests, determining the most effective way to expedite a request and allocating the appropriate resources.
